At GMI, employee safety is job one. Our employees are our most valuable asset, that is why we believe safety is not just a slogan it is a way of life. GMI's dedication to safety starts with a Personal Protective Equipment program for all employees. We also embrace safety education as an essential part of a successful business.

Comprehensive training programs are a standard requirement performed by OSHA certified safety trainers. We perform detailed jobsite safety inspections on a daily basis to ensure the safety of our employees as well as other trades involved at the jobsite. Job specific safety plans and training are a widespread practice based on job hazard analysis.

We also implement a drug free work place through pre-employment, random, and post accident drug screening. As a result of a disciplined and diligent safety program, our current Experience Modifier Rating (EMR) is below the average industry rating. GMI takes safety very seriously and, at the end of the day, we want to assure all team members return safely to their families!

GMI has embraced the Globally Harmonized System for hazard communication which includes implementation of the new Safety Data Sheeets, replacing the previous MSDS sheets as they become available.

Our safety program includes:

  • Full time safety director and safety coordinator
  • Mandatory fall protection program
  • Mandatory PPE program (cut resistant gloves, vest, glasses, boots, hardhats, earplugs and a badge)
  • Comprehensive SDS (formerly MSDS) books kept at each jobsite
  • Weekly "Tool Box Topics" safety talks at each jobsite
  • Daily jobsite safety inspections by onsite supervisors
  • Scheduled, in-depth jobsite safety inspections by safety coordinator and director
  • OSHA 30 hour, First Aid, and CPR trained superintendents and foremen
  • New hire safety orientation and competency testing for all field employees
  • Monthly safety training meetings for PMs, superintendents and foremen
